Questions and Answers

1.  How soon would you like to see the copy of the airline ticket for the dates? Answer: At least a month out, but even if you were to get them 6 month out we will file the copy in our files.

 2.  What date should we fly in? Answer: Even though we say your time to serve is from the 1st to the last day of the month to serve, we want you to be able to save money on the flights, so you can travel a few days either side of those days. 

3.  What is the clothing/dress code to work at PKCC?  Answer: There is no dress code, shorts, short sleeve shirts/blouses, tennis shoes or sandals are fine.

4.  What will our days off be? Answer: Most of the time will be either Sunday and Monday, Monday and Tuesday or Tuesday and Wednesday, days off will almost never be Friday or Saturday due to schedules.

5.  What do we wear to church? Answer: Churches in Hawaii are very casual, slacks or shorts and shirts for men, blouses, shorts, coulottes/skorts, pants or dresses for women.

6.  How many days off do we get? Answer: Normally two days off per week.

7. How many hours do we work weekly? Answer: Normally at least 40 hours a week, 8 am to 4 or 5 pm most days, when we are feeding groups you may work 2-3 hours then off 2 hours, work 2-3 hours then off 2 hours, and then work 2-3 hours.

8.  When will we have a vehicle to use?  Answer: We try to give each couple a vehicle to use on thier days off, at other times as needed and when they are not being used. When work teams are working at PKCC they will have priority (most of the time this would be only one week every few months or less) if they are using all of our vehicles we will coordinate with them for use as needed.

9. Are both the husband and wife expected to work? Answer: Yes we plan on both husbands and wives working, and will be working with other couples to get all the work accomplished.

10. How many volunteer couples will there be working with us? Answer: We try to have at least 3 couples working monthly.

11. If there are jobs that we would really like to do, is possible to work those jobs? Answer: We always try to allow people to do the jobs they like although some jobs are only one person jobs.

12.  Where should we have our mail sent? Answer: Send to PUU Kahea Baptist Conference Center, (your name), 85-199 Ala Hema St., Waianae, HI 96792.

13. Where should we attend church? Answer: There are 75 Southern Baptist Churches on the Island and 100′s of others, you are welcome to attend anywhere you may desire. Waianae Baptist Church is located just a few feet through our back gate.

14.  Will we have a computer to use and do you have WI FI? Anwer: We do have WI FI, but at this time we do not have a computer for volunteers to us. 

15. Where will we do our laundry? Answer: Washing machines and dryers are located at Makai lanai and the linen room at the Plantation building.

16. Where can we shop for food? Answer: There are two grocery stores in Waianae, less that a mile and a half a way.

17.  Are there any fast food restaurants close to PKCC? Answer: Waianae has the following; Taco Bell, McDonald’s, Burger King, L and L drive inn, Blazin Steaks, Pizza Hut, KFC, Subway, BBQ Kai, No. 1 Chinese, Hannara’s, Hui on fast food, Waianae Chop Suey, Waianae Chinese Kitchen, Faith’s Place, L and P drive inn, Golden House Restaurant, Jack n Box, and may be more….

18. How far are the nearest shopping areas? Answer: About 12 miles to Target, KMart and Ross, 17 and 20 miles to Walmart, 19 miles to KMart, Old Navy and outlet malls. On Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday the swap meet is at the stadium approx. 25 miles and of course all the shopping you may want in Honolulu approx. 35 miles away.

19. What airport do we fly into? Answer: Honolulu, (Oahu) International Airport  (HNL)

20. Will we be picked up at the airport and if so, by who? Answer: Yes, normally the directors will pick you up or send one of the volunteer couple and get something to eat on the way to Puu Kahea.

21. Do we need to bring towels, wash clothes, and bedding items? Answer: All these items are furnished.

22. Are there walking trails or beaches close by for exercise? Answer: The beach is about a 5-7 minute walk away from Puu Kahea.

23. Where can we find maps and or information about the surrounding area? Answer: You can find just about everything you need to know by going on google and searching Oahu maps and Oahu Activities.

24. Are there any tax benefits for serving at Puu Kahea as volunteers?
Answer: You should always contact your tax preparer, but here are some ideas you may want to consider. Of course keep the following receipts; all travel expenses (transportation to airport, airline ticket receipts, meals etc…), when here at Puu Kahea you may want to keep a log of hours you work to prove you were on a mission trip if audited. You will need to keep all receipts for food when you are here and any gas you put into vehicles for Puu Kahea business.

25. How hard do we have to work? Answer: We work a min. of 40 hours a week (both men and women). Men need to be able to lift full 5 gallon coolers, use weed eaters etc… Ladies need to be able to sweep, mop and clean large areas etc… please see 4, 6, 7 and 9 above.
